League Two Preview: The final week

The final week of football in League Two is fast approaching, with all sides knowing what is expected of them and what they have to do. Burton and Shrewsbury are already up, so there are three teams battling it out for the final automatic promotion place. As for the play-offs, they’re pretty much confirmed, but for an exceptional goal swing between games. Here is your League Two Preview.

Cambridge United vs Burton Albion

League leaders Burton will look to finish the season top, winning the league title. The Brewers are unbeaten in eleven games as they prepare to travel to Cambridge, with the U’s having lost three in their last six.

Shrewsbury Town vs Plymouth Argyle

Shrewsbury are already promoted, but will be looking to move to the top of the table with a win at home against Plymouth. The Shrews have lost just twice in their last eleven games, with their opponents having lost their last two away games. Plymouth are three points above Luton and Newport in the final play-off place, and only a severe goal swing would see them drop out of the play-offs.

Morecambe vs Southend United

Southend moved into the final automatic promotion place last weekend, and would stay there with a win at Morecambe. The Shrimpers gave won their last seven games, keeping eight consecutive clean sheets also. Morecambe haven’t been as prolific at home this season, but beat Wycombe last weekend at Adams Park.

Tranmere Rovers vs Bury

Already relegated Tranmere will hope to put a dent in Bury’s automatic promotion bid when the Shakers visit Prenton Park. The Shakers took a significant setback when they lost at home to Southend, but bounced back last week with a win, leaving them two points behind the Shrimpers. Tranmere have lost their last five games in succession, but a win could see them move off the bottom.

Northampton Town vs Wycombe Wanderers

Wycombe slipped out of the automatic promotion places for the first time since October last week as they lost at home to Morecambe. The Chairboys find themselves three points behind Southend, but Gareth Ainsworth’s side may have to accept that they’ll be finishing in the play-offs. Northampton lost last time out against league leaders Burton, and have won only once in their last six games.

Luton Town vs Stevenage

Stevenage have guaranteed sixth spot, and travel to Kenilworth Road to face a Luton side that, mathematically, could still reach the play-offs. The Hatters are three points behind Plymouth, but have an inferior goal difference. Stevenage are unbeaten in seven league games as they prepare for their play-off campaign.

Newport County vs Oxford United

Newport, like Luton, are three points behind Plymouth, but need a significant goal swing of their own to finish in the top seven. They host an Oxford side who are unbeaten in seven league games, with Newport failing to win at Rodney Parade in three attempts.

Exeter City vs Dagenham and Redbridge

Dagenham netted four times last time out, and have scored eleven goals in their last five games, including two 4-0 victories. They travel to St. James Park to face an Exeter side that have lost four successive games, including last week’s defeat to Hartlepool.

A.F.C Wimbledon vs Cheltenham Town

Already relegated Cheltenham travel to Wimbledon this weekend having won just once in their last ten games.
