4-27-15 DAILY FANTASY BASEBALL PICKS

Pitcher

James Shields, SP, San Diego Padres, $8,100 – David Price is my top pitcher of the day with a rematch of his Opening Day domination against the Minnesota Twins, but with a price tag nearly $3,000 more than Shields, I prefer the Padre Ace at home against an Astros team that strikes out at a ridiculous 27.0% rate. My only concern is getting the Win locked down, as Collin McHugh will be starting for the Astros and has been pitching solidly in the early going this year. While not many Padres have BvP data against McHugh, Justin Upton has a 3-run HR in only two AB and Will Middlebrooks is 2-for-3, so I will gamble that San Diego can pull out the victory at home.

Jimmy Nelson, SP, Milwaukee, $7,100 – I am not sure this would be the best day to skimp at SP, but if you must then Jimmy Nelson looks like the best option to save a little bit of cap space’ Nelson has been pitching very well of late and Reds hitters have had limited success against Nelson. There is potential for a huge blow up here, but with Jason Marquis manning the bump for the Reds, I like the Brewers to have a good shot at the win.

Catcher

Brian McCann, C, New York Yankees, $2,800 – McCann is off to a so-so start, but a home game after a night off against struggling Nathan Karns looks to be a good spot for a solid game. There are not many good catching options tonight as most guys have tougher pitching match-ups. Should you choose to go elsewhere at catcher, I could see Buster Posey ($3,500), Russell Martin ($3,200), Caleb Joseph ($2,700) or Wilson Ramos ($2,600) being decent alternatives.

First Base

Chris Davis, 1B, Baltimore Orioles, $3,300 – Today is a Baltimore stack day, and Davis is probably my favorite play for the price from their lineup today. Not a great BvP history against White Sox starter Hector Noesi (2 for 13 with 1 RBI), but Davis is off to a solid start this year (.269, 4 HR, 13 RBI) and is potentially showing last year was a mild hiccup in his resurgent career. There are few better bets for recording a HR tonight than Chris Davis and his price tag allows you to beef up elsewhere, rather than spending $4000+ at 1B. If you have the cap space, Miguel Cabrera and Paul Goldschmidt are great options tonight as well.

Second Base

Jimmy Paredes, 2B, Baltimore Orioles, $3,000 – A deep Post-Hype Sleeper, Paredes was a star coming up through the Astros organization, but fizzled when he reached the big leagues. A resurgence has occurred with the Orioles which is putting it mildly as he recorded 15 H, 8 R, 3 HR, 9 RBI and 1 SB in his first 8 games in Baltimore this season. With a hit in his only career AB against Hector Noesi, I am rolling the dice that the switch hitting Paredes continues his hot streak tonight.

Third Base

Josh Donaldson, 3B, Toronto Blue Jays, $4,200 – Third base is one of the tougher positions to choose at tonight, so I am just going to the top and using Josh Donaldson. Off to a great start to the 2015 campaign, Donaldson draws a nice match up in Fenway against Joe Kelly who is not as good as his numbers may appear. If you choose to save some cap here, look at Nolan Arenado ($3,700), Manny Machado ($3,300), Alex Rodriguez ($3,200), or Nick Castellanos ($2,500).

Shortstop

Mike Aviles, SS, Cleveland Indians, $2,200 – The match up is less than ideal against the Royals, but batting second in a decent lineup against left handed pitchers makes Aviles a very solid play for $2,200. Tim Beckham ($2,400) and Wilmer Flores ($2,600) are other options at shortstop.

Outfield

Nelson Cruz, OF, Seattle Mariners, $5,000 – Back to the old stomping grounds in Texas against a washed up Yovani Gallardo, if that was not enough, Cruz owns a lifetime BvP of 5 for 5 with two HR against Gallardo. The likely April AL Player of the Month is in a great spot tonight, fire him up with confidence.

Adam Jones, OF, Baltimore Orioles, $4,000 – Jones has cooled off a bit from his torrid start, but still has six hits in his past four games; a free-swinger like Jones can be a great option as he is likely to rack up the points when he is seeing the ball well, as his .403 AVG would suggest. He is 6 for 10 with two HR against Hector Noesi which should make Jones one of the cornerstone selections of your roster tonight.

Alejandro De Aza, OF, Baltimore Orioles, $2,400 – Stuck in a weekly long mini-slump, I like De Aza to break out tonight and have a nice fantasy game. De Aza sat out Sunday versus the left handed Wade Miley, but recorded a double on Saturday which was only his second hit in a week. Hector Noesi can cure all ills and I am betting on De Aza as a nice cap saver tonight.

You can play this lineup with James Shields at SP, but should you opt to go cheaper at SP, look to upgrade the C, 1B and/or SS spots. Good luck today!
