4-20-15 DAILY FANTASY PICKS

Pitcher

Edinson Volquez, SP, Kansas City Royals, $9,000 – There are not many good pitching options today, so I am looking to invest in a solid SP; looking to a pitcher on a team with the best record in baseball who is at home facing Minnesota is probably a good place to start. Volquez does not overwhelm me with confidence, but he can score you some points in K’s, should not give up many runs, and should be in a good spot for the all important Win in the FanDuel scoring system.

Hisashi Iwakuma, SP, Seattle Mariners, $8,300 – Iwakuma draws a favorable strikeout match up at home in Safeco against the Houston Astros. There is some danger here as Iwakuma is not an overpowering pitcher and is sporting an ERA over 6.00 in the young season, but there so much to despise about the Houston line-up at the current time, I think this could be a good match-up to exploit if you want to save a little bit of cap space from Volquez.

Catcher

Derek Norris, C, San Diego Padres, $2,800 – Right handed hitter, batting second in the lineup, in Coors Field, against a left handed Starting Pitcher? Oh and he’s a $2,800 Catcher — sign me up. Due to the lack of cheaper SP options, you are gonna need to find some lower price tag hitters, I think Norris fits the bill nicely. If you are looking to save even more at Catcher, look to Roberto Perez against John Danks.

First Base

Carlos Santana, 1B, Cleveland Indians, $3,200 – Santana is a Switch-Hitter, so any time he is up against a sub-par Starting Pitcher in a hitter’s park, he is in play. That is the case today with a match up against the Chicago White Sox in U.S. Cellular Field and John Danks. Santana does not have great BvP stats against Danks (6-27, 1HR, 4RBI), but Danks is not the same pitcher he was for a big part of those numbers.

Second Base

Jedd Gyorko, 2B, San Diego Padres, $2,700 – In a word, Gyorko has been “enormous” versus Jorge de la Rosa, with 10 H in 15 AB against Jorge De la Rosa in his career. There are not many other cheap 2B options; if you fade Gyorko, who I expect to be fairly high percentage, then you will probably need to spend up for a player such as Robinson Cano.

Third Base

Will Middlebrooks, 3B, San Diego Padres, $3,000 – I hope by now you have discovered the trend of my picks today, we are going with a big Padre stack in Coors Field. Middlebrooks does not have any history against De la Rosa, but being a right handed hitter and being on a nice little heater right now with home runs in two of his last three games, I think you can do much worse than Middlebrooks at 3B today. Mike Moustakas was the only other 3B I was looking at, if you can squeeze him in and feel more comfortable, by all means feel free to do it.

Shortstop

Jose Iglesias, SS, Detroit Tigers, $2,900 – Iglesias is leading all Major League Shortstops in AVG, OBP and SB; facing opposite handed, and well past his prime, CC Sabathia in Comerica Park should be a nice spot for Iglesias here.

Outfield

Matt Kemp, OF, San Diego Padres, $4,300 – Likely to be the highest percentage owned player tonight, Kemp owns a .385, 3 HR, 12 RBI line in 39 career AB against De la Rosa. It does not hurt having this game in Coors and Kemp having a strong start to the season either. Fade him at your own risk.

Nelson Cruz, OF, Seattle Mariners, $4,700 – Have a month, why don’t ya? Eight HR and there are still 10 days to go in April. A home game versus a struggleingyoung pitcher in Asher Wojciechowski looks to be a spot where I would not expect Cruz too start his cool off period. If you pass on Cruz, Justin Upton is a similar price tag, and in fact if you prefer Upton, you can play Moustakas in lieu of Middlebrooks for the same total salary and still maintain the max of four Padres.

Ryan Raburn, OF, Cleveland Indians, $2,400 – Raburn is the Monday punt play. With three RBI and hits in three straight games, should he get the start tonight, Raburn owns a fantastic career line against John Danks (.341, 3 HR, 11 RBI in 44 AB). Keep an eye on the Indians line-up news, but it appears to be a good spot for a nice BvP play.

Good luck today!
