We’ll suggest players of each position that possess value for the rest of the season or while they are riding on a hot-streak.
Waiver Wire Report: Week Two
Catcher: Robinson Chirinos, Texas Rangers.
Robinson Chirinos won the starting job as the Rangers catcher on Spring as he outplayed Carlos Corporan, batting for a .238 / .304 / .619 slash line. Entering the second week of the season he has a .238 avg. with 2 HR and 6 RBI. The average won’t rise during the year, but keep an eye on the production. He has very limited value in all fantasy formats, but he’s a good pick to have as your bench catcher.
First Base: Ike Davis, Oakland Athletics.
Ike Davis was expected to be a platoon player with Billy Butler since he dominates match-ups vs.Right hander pitchers (last year 92% of his at bats were vs. RHP). Still, he has started all games except one for the Athletics and he has been an effective hitter, batting for a .353 AVG. Davis has 1 HR and 6 RBI in the year, expect to see the AVG decrease during the year, but he’s a good pick right now thanks to his hot-streak.
Second Base: DJ LeMahieu, Colorado Rockies.
LeMahieu ranks second in the National League with a .474 AVG just behind Adrian Gonzalez’ .550 AVG. He has a career .282 BA, so you can be confident that he’ll put the ball on play all season long. LeMahieu has value in deeper leagues as a starting second baseman.
Third Base: Jake Lamb, Arizona Diamondbacks.
Lamb has been one of the hottest players of the year, having a .440 /.548 / .760 slash line. If he keeps playing like this, don’t worry about Yasmany Tomas. Lamb is a must own right now.
Shortstop: Tim Beckham, Tampa Bay Rays.
Former first overall draft pick, Beckham is performing effortlessly this year, owning a .259 / .276 / .556 slash line along with 2 HR and 6 RBI. You can grab Beckham in any league format.
Outfield: Dexter Fowler, Chicago Cubs.
Fowler has never been a valuable OF, but he is currently riding on a hot-streak having .385 AVG in the past seven days with 1 HR, 6 R, 4 RBI and 3 SB. Keep an eye on him, but feel free to scoop him up.
Starting Pitcher: Anthony DeSclafani, Cincinnati Reds.
DeSclafani was traded to the Reds in the offseason from the Marlins, and he has pitched efficiently with his new team, posting a 1.38 ERA with a o.77 WHIP in two outings. He is a must add player.
Relief Pitcher: Adam Ottavino, Colorado Rockies.
LaTroy Hawkings lost his job as the closer for the Rockies as he had one save in 3 opportunities and he posted a 18.66 ERA. The time has come for the former first round pick to shine. Ottavino has 2 SV in 2 SVO and he has K’d 12 batters.
