League Two Preview: April 14

Four games left in League Two, and another full set of fixtures take place over Tuesday and Wednesday night. Shrewsbury could move top with a win away at Bury, whilst Burton play on Wednesday. The bottom two in Cheltenham and Tranmere both face clubs also at the wrong end of the table, so will be desperate to pick up points. Here is your League Two Preview.

Tuesday 14th April

Bury vs Shrewsbury Town

2nd placed Shrewsbury have the opportunity to move to the top of the table with a win against promotion hopefuls Bury. Bury find themselves just four points off an automatic promotion place, having Won zone nine of their last eleven games, so they too will be looking for a win, but the Shrews have won six games in succession, and would secure promotion with a win.

Wycombe Wanderers vs Exeter City

Wycombe need to push on following two successive defeats at the start of the month but bounced back on Saturday with all three points. The Chairboys occupy the final automatic promotion place, whilst Exeter suffered a setback in their promotion bid last weekend, as they suffered their first defeat in nine games.

Southend United vs Newport County

Southend are looking likely to consolidate a play-off place, but host a Newport side who have been in and out of the play-off contention in recent weeks with back to back defeats. Southend are unbeaten in five games at Roots Hall, and will look to keep their play-off ambitions alive.

Stevenage vs Portsmouth

Stevenage remain in the playoffs following their win on Saturday, and host a Pompey side that have failed to win on the road in five attempts. The Boro are unbeaten in four, as they look to consolidate a top seven finish. Pompey will be without manager Andy Awford, having stepped down from his position on Monday. Assistant manager Gary Waddock will take over for the remainder four games.

Plymouth Argyle vs A.F.C Wimbledon

Plymouth moved back into the playoffs on Saturday, and will look to remain there when a Dons side, who have failed to win in eight on the road, visit Home Park. The Pilgrims win extended their unbeaten record at Home Park to four games, and they’ll be looking to make it five with three clubs three or less points behind them.

Dagenham and Redbridge vs Luton Town

Dagenham and Redbridge have either lost or won in recent weeks, and face a Luton side who have lost eight in nine games. The Hatters still hope for a top seven finish, but John Still’s side will need to change their form around as they sit three points off the playoffs.

Oxford United vs Northampton Town

Northampton suffered a significant setback in their play-off ambitions with a defeat last time out, and travel to an Oxford side who are unbeaten on four games. The Cobblers are seven points from a play-off place, and Chris Wilder will look to reduce that gap when he visits his former club. Oxford are safe, but the U’s will look to put a dent in their former managers ambitions.

York City vs Morcambe

York have put together a five game unbeaten run, form that has moved them further afield of the drop zone. Morcambe meanwhile are unbeaten in six away games, and could still reach the playoffs.

Hartlepool United vs Accrington Stanley

Despite a five game unbeaten run that saw Hartlepool move out of the relegation zone, back to back defeats has seen the Pools slip to within a point of the drop. They face a Stanley side who, despite thee games unbeaten still aren’t mathematically safe, but they should be ok.

Cheltenham Town vs Cambridge United

Bottom club Cheltenham suffered another defeat last time out, and have failed to win in nine games. The Robins face a Cambridge side that are unbeaten in two games following their draw with Accrington last time out, but the U’s are nine points clear of the drop.

Mansfield Town vs Tranmere Rovers

The relegation game of the day comes from Field Mill where a Mansfield side who have failed to win on five face a Tranmere team who remain in the bottom two following five games without a win. The Stags are six points clear of the drop, but have lost their last two games at Field Mill, whilst Rovers are one point from safety in 23rd.

Wednesday 15th April

Burton Albion vs Carlisle United

Burton could have slipped to 2nd by the time they kick-off, but will be aware that three points would see them gain promotion. They face a Carlisle side that recorded their first win in five games on Saturday, but remain perilously close to the drop in 21st.
