Fantasy Profile: Christian Yelich, OF, Miami Marlins.

LWOS Ranking 19, Captain’s Value; $15.51

This week, Christian Yelich signed a 7-year 49.5 Million contract and he’s worth every penny of it, maybe even more. Last year, he proved why Baseball America ranked him as #15 prospect after the 2012 season. Last year he batted for a .284 AVG. along with a .362 OBP and a .402 SLG. The 2014 Gold Glove winner in  LF demonstrated the value of his batting and his consistency at the plate. During April, he had a 17-game hitting streak (22 hits during the streak). He finished the year 5th  in the NL in Runs Scored with 94, and 10th in the NL in walks (BB) with 70. Mike Redmond calls him the ‘batting champion of the future’.

During the offseason, the Marlins traded for infielder Dee Gordon who is projected to be in the lineup as their lead off hitter. This should means no harm for his value because he is projected to bat below the speedy 2B which should help increase his RBI total (54 last year). Also, we have yet to see more power coming from Yelich’s bat. He had 15 HRs in 2011 (minors) which is his career high. There is no doubt at all that he will have at least 10 HR this year. Also, the Runs are unlikely to decrease since Giancarlo Stanton is right behind Yelich in the lineup.

This Spring Training Yelich has hit for a .364 / .481 / .409 slash line in his first 22 PA which lets us know that he’s eyeing for a solid 2015 campaign. Draft him with no hesitation.
