Atkinson, 25, was drafted by Columbus in the 6th round, 157th overall, back in 2008 and has played four seasons with the Blue Jackets. In 198 games with the team, The Riverside-native has played 198 games and has put up 97 points (50 goals, 47 assists). He has also appeared in 6 playoff games and has posted 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists). Keeping him was a priority for the Jackets.
Cam has been a fixture in the Blue Jackets top-6, playing on the right side of Brandon Dubinsky, on the second line. He’s a feisty winger with some speed, which is something the Blue Jackets will continue to build with. Possessing a strong, accurate shot, Atkinson is notably good in all three zones and has some stick-handling skills to boot. His lack of size has been a concern, but his quickness and strong play something that has really been an asset for the Jackets. Rumored to be in trades for several weeks, instead Atkinson will be staying with Columbus.
