Patrick Kane Injured: To Miss Significant Time

UPDATE: According to an official release from the Blackhawks, Kane has undergone successful surgery on his clavicle and will be out for approximately 12 week.

Chicago Blackhawks superstar Patrick Kane left Tuesday’s game against the Panthers with an upper-body injury after being checked into the boards by Alex Petrovic. Various reports out of Chicago suggest he could be out anywhere from a month to ten weeks.

Anything longer than six weeks would of course jeopardize Kane’s participation in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Petrovic will not face the NHL’s department of player safety following the hit.

Kane is currently tied for the NHL lead in points with 64. He was also considered to be a possible Hart Trophy Candidate.

The Blackhawks won the game 3-2 in a shootout over the Panthers, breaking the club’s three game losing streak. Jonathan Toews scored in regulation and again in the shootout, to lead the team to the win.

“That’s a big two points,” coach Joel Quenneville said. “As a group, we’ve got to make sure everybody plays the right way, plays tighter, and has some responsibility to their games. We’ve got to look to play tight, low-scoring games.”

On Kane’s injury; “Looks like he might miss some time, but we’ll know the extent of it tomorrow,” Quenneville said. “We’ll see.”
