FANTASY PROFILE: BRANDON CRAWFORD, SS, SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS
LWOS Ranking 21, Captain’s Value: -$2.06
Brandon Crawford is the classic example of a player who is more valuable to his own team than he is to your Fantasy team. While he has always been a strong player defensively, the same can’t be said about his offense.
Even when it comes to the progress he has made offensively, much of it is not typically applicable to Fantasy players. While he did record an above average wRC+ (102) for the first time in his career, one of the major factors contributing to this was an improvement in his BB% which came in at 10.5%. While this is very helpful for the Giants, the fact that he hit .246 and barely reached 10 HR doesn’t do much for his fantasy value.
Since his wRC+ has improved every year since Crawford started his career, it would be reasonable to expect that 2015’s numbers could come in slightly better than 2014. That being said, an incremental improvement would not be enough to make Crawford worth drafting.
