Victoria Azarenka employs Wim Fissette as new coach

As the coaching carousel of women’s tennis continues to rotate, we finally have discovered who will be the man or woman that takes Victoria Azarenka’s game to more grand slam titles. Reportedly the man that has asserted himself in the role is Wim Fissette, well known for winning three grand slam championships with Kim Clijsters on her return to professional tennis, where she won the US Open in 2009, 2010 and then their partnership culminated with the Australian Open win in 2011.

He also recently was a cog in the works for the surging Romanian Simona Halep, where she got to a career high of World No 2 in the WTA Rankings. With Fissette by her side, Halep made her first grand slam quarter-final in any event at the Australian, then eventually went on to make her first Grand Slam final at Roland Garros, where she lost a tight three set match to Maria Sharapova.

There’s many pieces to the Fissette jigsaw that seem to fit into place perfectly with Victoria Azarenka. He took Kim Clijsters from tennis obscurity, very much like where Azarenka is now, and revitalized her career at the biggest stage, not just any stage, but at the top of the hierarchy of modern tennis by attaining more grand slams. It’s hard to argue against his credentials when comparing the position that Azarenka is in now, still a very much feared opponent on the women’s circuit, but essentially needs that extra belief from not only within but from a budding coach like Fissette that can push her onto titles at slam level once again.

Fissette’s been spotted in Doha, the next tournament where Azarenka will play her next competitive tennis and he’s also seen overseeing some of her practices, which leads many to believe that in the coming hours he’ll be announced officially as the next coach of two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka.

Fissette’s done it before but can lightning strike twice for the Belgian?
