Ottawa Senators, Marc Methot Agree to 4-year Contract Extension

The Ottawa Senators announced Monday morning that they have agreed to the terms of a four year contract extension with defenceman Marc Methot. The gritty shutdown defenceman will be paid an annual average of $4.9 million. Methot’s contract also includes a modified 10 team no trade clause. Methot, who is an Ottawa native, expressed that he’d rather stay on the team as opposed to being traded. Though Senators GM, Bryan Murray, expressed that if there was no contract extension before the March 2nd trade deadline, that Methot would see himself being traded out of Ottawa. Prior to this weekend there was no talks of contract since training camp. With Methot being injured for the first half of the season, it not only dimmed talks but wiped them out completely as both sides wanted to see how effective Marc was when healthy.

Since returning from injury, Marc has been the best defenceman on the Senators team and a great pairing for the offensive sensation, Erik Karlsson, who experienced difficulties all season on finding a solid and effective defensive pairing. In 17 games this season Methot has registered 5 assists and is plus-8, though points barely matter for a player of his type.
