Arm: A

Possesses top notch arm strength. Can spin it in excess of 50 yards downfield. Puts a ton of RPMs on his fastball, but his receivers seem to have struggled holding onto to it. Ball can come out of his hand too flat and too wobbly at times. Delivery is lower than ideal, but still shows a decent release. Passes batted at the line are occasional.

Accuracy: C

Accuracy downfield is better than in the short passing game. Gets adequate touch and placement on vertical throws. Has a tendency to throw the ball too high to his receivers on short routes. Trajectory on short passes is too flat and seems to be unable to throw a changeup. Passes tend to sail on short and intermediate routes. Lacks anticipation. Has good footwork when he can set his feet, and frequently steps up in the pocket.

Athleticism: B+

Similar athlete to Cam Newton in my opinion. Does not have great speed, but is a natural runner. Has good vision and agility as a runner and can bull through arm tackles and pick up yards after contact. Is mobile within the pocket but can be too eager to takeoff and run. Drops his eyes when under pressure and looks to evade the rush before looking to throw. Has had some trouble holding onto shotgun snaps and is untested from under center.

Mental: D

Usually only makes one or two reads on any given play, but will use both sides of the field. Too often looks rushed and the game appears to be too fast for him at times. Does not appear comfortable with going through progressions and may take time to adjust to a new offense. Holds onto the ball for too long and will drop his eyes and abandon his reads when under pressure. Played under former NFL head coach Jim L. Mora so may better prepared to make the transition to the pros than it would appear on tape.

Intangibles: B

Is a very smart and hard-working player by all accounts. Presumably should be able to overcome the issues in his game, given time. Is tough and has leadership traits. Can be flustered by pressure on the field, and lacks the kind of poise you would like to see from a high-end draft pick. Play must become more consistent as he can look good in one game, and then terrible in another.

Red Flags: Raw Talent

Bottom Line: Brett Hundley is an intriguing prospect as he possesses the physical tools you look for in an NFL quarterback, but has yet to put it all together. While he has flaws that are correctable, many quarterbacks have had the same issues and were never able to put it together. Would benefit from playing in a vertical offense, especially on a team that has veteran quarterback he can prepare under for a year or two.

Comparison: Jake Locker

Grade: 8.4 (3rd Round)
