FANTASY PROFILE: ROBINSON CANO, 2B, SEATTLE MARINERS
LWOS Ranking 2, Captain’s Value: $19.58
Robinson Cano left his power in New York after signing a 10 year $240 million deal with the Mariners last off season. Cano’s 14 HR and 82 RBIs were his lowest totals since 2008. His HR/FB ratio dropped from 17.3% to 10.7%, which ranked 62nd in the league. Was his drop in power due to his move to Safeco Field? The numbers say no. Cano hit 9 HR at home to only 5 on the road, and his HR/FB ratio was 14% at home against 7% on the road. So why were his power numbers down so much? The world will never know.
All things considered, Cano is still worth a late-first round draft pick. Expect a consistent 2B who will hit .300 with 20 HR and 85 RBI. However, don’t expect the power numbers he put up earlier in his career.
