Athleticism: C+
Shows very good playing speed, especially in a straight line, also has solid quickness. Has an explosive gear change and can pull away from the pack in a foot race. Routinely was able to outpace defensive backs when asked to get vertical. Shows some stiffness in hips that affect his ability to make sharply change direction.
Catching: B+
Possess the strong hands to make difficult grabs outside of his frame. Fearless extending for the football and has a very large catch radius. Made a number of impressive one-handed and end zone catches. Extremely good ability to adjust to low and high thrown balls. Has some trouble converting completions in competitive catch situations and while in traffic. Needs to high point the football more often.
Routes: B-
Has a powerful first step off the line of scrimmage and gets off the ball quickly. Tempos his release off the line and into his routes. A zone beater who finds the soft spot in zone coverage and exploits it. Ran an impressive variety of routes for a spread offense receiver. Shows the ability to be a vertical threat with a combination of superior size and speed. Defenders incurred multiple pass interference flags per game trying to contain him. Chops his feet when needed to make sharp cuts laterally and coming back to the football. Is not a compact mover or route runner. Played in a spread offense and won’t have the same type of easy matchups and wide open zones to settle into in the pros.
After Catch: B+
Shows some wiggle after the catch and fights for additional yards. Has very good upfield transition on screen passes. Strong vision to pick up blockers and find holes when he’s in the open field and shows a homerun gear when he has the ball in his hands. Excels at picking up the first down every time he comes down with the ball.
Blocking: B
Possesses a long, strong frame in addition to the strength and effort to be more than effective as a blocker on the perimeter. Extends and latches on as a run blocker and seals his man from the play. Take his role as a blocker seriously and is a strong competitor.
Red Flags: System Player
Bottom Line: While Kevin White may have thrived in a pass happy spread offense, he is by no means merely a product of the system around him. The former JUCO transfer exploded onto the scene early this fall and proved he has the athletic and physical traits to become a successful NFL receiver. White fits best in a vertical offense and has the makings of a future go-to receiver.
Comparison: Demaryius Thomas
