Fantasy Profile: Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C, Miami Marlins
Pos. Rank 19, Captains Value $-3.75
The one positive thing with Jarrod Saltalamacchia is that he has enough power to hit double figures in Home Runs. However, there are several other things that keeps his Fantasy Value at best, fringe level. First of all, the playing time he gets is limited at best as he’s only had more than 450 PA once in his career. In addition, he’s only hit above .235 once in the last four seasons.
While Saltalamacchia hit 25 HR in 2012 & hit .273 in 2013 indicating a possibility that he could be a deep sleeper pick if everything fell right, he would need to be extremely lucky for one or both of these things to be counted on. His 25 HR happened in a season where he had a 20% HR/FB rate (career total is 13.2%). His .273 average happened primarily due to having a BABIP that season which is 51 points above his career total.
