Reports out of England indicate that Wilfried Bony will move from Swansea City to defending Premier League Champions Manchester City after the clubs agreed on a £28 million deal.
Swansea City signed the Ivorian for a club-record £12 million from Vitesse Arnhem in the summer of 2013. In 2014 Bony was the top scorer in the league with 20 goals.
The deal is expected to be concluded in the next 48 hours. Wilfried Bony is currently away on international duties with the Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations. Manchester City are hoping for a smooth negotiation for his personal terms and a successful medicals.
Manchester City will pay £25 million upfront with performace-related add-ons that will amount to a further £3 million. Bony has scored nine goals in 26 games for Swansea City this season including the last minute equalizer he scored against Queen’s Park Rangers on New Year’s Day.
City manager Manuel Pellegrini has added more depth to his squad after he went games without a fit striker in the festive period. He will now have Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko, Stevan Jovetic and now Bony to choose from. Bony’s arrival might mean either Dzeko or Jovetic might be on their way out of the club. The Citizens were sanctioned for breaching financial fair play rules last year, and may need to sell to avoid running afoul of the rules again this year.
The club has brought in French defender Eliaquim Mangala, Fernando and Willy Caballero for fees that summed up to £48 million. They also sold Javi Garcia to Zenit St Petersburg for £13m, Jack Rodwell also joined Sunderland in deal believed to be worth approximately £10 million. Bony was a target for so many clubs and the Champions will be delighted to have wrapped up the move with plenty of time left in the transfer window.
