Athleticism: B

Playing speed looks to be even better than timed speed, which is already above average for his size. Consistently was able to get a half step ahead of opposing defensive backs vertically. More fluid than explosive, but accelerates very well. Will get tracked down by some of the faster corners, however.

Catching: A-

Has good hands, but didn’t convert as many targets into catches as he should have. Looks the football in and is still capable of making plays after the catch. Did not suffer concentration drops and is mentally tough, not being fazed by approaching defenders. Has pogo-stick leaping ability to go along with exceptional body control. Has a huge catch radius with his combination of length, leaping ability, and body control.

Routes: C

Burst off the line is questionable, at times exploding forward after the snap, while at other times spinning his wheels for a few steps before he really gets going. More fluid than sharp in his routes, and will round off some of his breaks. Doesn’t separate from short and intermediate coverage as well as he does on vertical routes. A number of his catches and targets were contested and needs to get stronger or take a tougher approach to fighting for the ball.

After Catch: C+

Fairly quick adjusting from the catch to the run. Has very good burst and acceleration when he’s already in motion. Takes effort to bring down with the ball in his hands and won’t be stopped with arm tackles. Can get knocked off balance somewhat easily, however.

Blocking: C

Gives average effort and effectiveness as a blocker. Is more invested in the play when blocking on screen to his side of the field. Flashes a fiery demeanor and will work past the whistle on select blocks.

Red Flags: Minor Durability Concerns

Bottom Line: DeVante Parker is one of the best receivers in college football who never turned in a phenomenal season (though his touchdown numbers were impressive). Mediocre quarterback play and a football injury slowed his senior season, but a strong Senior Bowl or Combine showing can firmly cement his status as a first round pick. Parker would be an ideal fit for a vertical offense and could possibly develop into a number one receiver, but is more likely to be a second banana on a good offense.

Comparison: Torrey Smith

Grade: 8.9 (2nd Round)
