Reports: Giants Re-Sign Jake Peavy; and Acquire Casey McGehee

According to reports, the San Francisco Giants have re-signed right-handed starting pitcher Jake Peavy to a two-year contract.  The deal is reportedly worth $24 million. Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports was first with the news.

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reports that Peavy will make $7 million in 2015 and $13 million in 2016. He also gets a $4 million signing bonus and a full no trade clause.

Peavy struggled early in 2014 as he was 1-9 with a 4.72 ERA in 20 starts with the Boston Red Sox last season.  He was then traded to the Giants where he was 6-4 with a 2.17 ERA in 12 starts for San Francisco, helping the club to make the playoffs, and win the World Series.  It was the second straight championship for Peavy who was part of the Red Sox 2013 World Series winner.

The Giants weren’t done though making a trade to fill the hole that was left at third base when Pablo Sandoval signed with the Red Sox as a free agent. According to a report from Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Giants acquired third baseman Casey McGehee from the Miami Marlins.

The 32-year-old McGehee hit .287/.355/.357 with four home runs and 76 RBI during the 2014 season.  He is is a .264./.324/.400 career hitter over six big league seasons.
