Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli has been fined £25,000 and will miss one game due to breaking FA Rules with his “Super Mario” Instagram post. The FA released the ruling today on their official website.
Mario Balotelli To Miss Arsenal Game
Balotelli is now set to miss Liverpool’s game against Arsenal this Sunday as a consequence of the punishment. The Italian tweeted a short statement after the verdict was given saying “I am sorry that my team-mates and supporters of Liverpool FC have to be penalised for something I did and now come to regret.” He also made it clear he would consciously try and avoid further trouble in future adding “It is my intention to comply with the decision of the FA and make sure it never happens again.”
Liverpool fielded no out and out striker in their 3-0 loss to Manchester United last weekend and are now desperately weak on the ground when it comes to forward men. Since signing from AC Milan in the summer, Balotelli has only hit the back of the net twice and will look to hit a run of form after serving his punishment. However, this incident only serves to cement a disappointing start to his Liverpool career.
The FA charge itself was under FA rule E3(1), for a post that was perceived as containing anti-Semitic and racists references. As well as the fine and one game ban, Balotelli must now go on an “education course” as part of the FA punishment that has been handed to him.
