UAB To Fire AD; Eliminate Football Program

UAB To Fire AD; Eliminate Football Program

Ever since Alabama Birmingham got a D3 football team in 1991, they have suffered from lack of success.

However, things were different this season after the school hired Bill Clark, who led the Blazers to a 6-6 record in one of the best turnarounds in the nation. This would make the Blazers bowl eligible for just the second time in school history.

This week, multiple reports, including USA Today’s Dan Wolken, have said that UAB is prepared to fire Athletic Director Brian Mackin and shut down its football program.

Coach Bill Clark told multiple media outlets that he thinks the school will shut down the football program, prior to tweeting later that his message was premature. If it indeed shuts down, not only would the Blazers no longer go to a bowl game, they likely wouldn’t even be invited to one.  College football bowl selections are expected to be finalized next Sunday.
