Woods and Trump Tee Off Amidst PGA-Saudi Negotiations.

It wasn’t the first Woods and Trump meeting, and it might not be the last either. Tiger Woods, a member on the PGA TOUR board on Sunday morning joined the U.S President Donald Trump for a casual round of golf in South Florida. But, do not let the word ‘casual’ fool you—the game was anything but casual. Their timing of the game is particularly noteworthy, but is it a significant coincidence?

Woods and Trump Meet Again

Just recently, Trump hosted golf legend Tiger Woods, Jay Monahan, and Adam Scott at the White House to discuss the future of golf in relation to Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) goal of unifying the game of golf on a global basis.

The PIF is not just an interested partner, it is the financial muscle that backs the LIV Golf. The trio believes that Trump’s involvement will likely favor their odds with the PIF deal.

So, days after the high-stakes meeting, Woods and Trump convene out on the green, possibly to discuss the next steps in a controversial issue that is not just about birdies and bogeys, but more about business and politics. They’ve met before, Woods even earning a Presidential Medal of Freedom from Trump during the President’s first term in 2019.

The Bigger Picture

The ‘casual’ round of golf could serve as an informal continuation of the discussion which recently happened at the White House reflecting golf’s history of being an avenue that serves for both political and business negotiations.

Given Trump’s relations with Saudi Arabia, and his involvement in the matters of the PGA, it is plausible to think that perhaps the negotiations are moving forward, or at least they are still in the game considering that the negotiations have been going on since 2023.

However, we must bear in mind that Saudi Arabia’s financial involvement isn’t without controversies, there are human rights issues lingering all over them. Trump’s political history just makes it worse, gaining criticism from the public over concerns that this issue laden with significance beyond the sport itself.

What Does It Mean? Donald Trump’s Influence on Golf

From meetings in Washington to rounds of golf in South Florida, yesterday’s game was about how sports, money, and politics collaborate in ways that are capable of reshaping the entire industry.

So whether these interactions pave way to a merger, a compromise, or further division, it is clear the industry of golf will never be the same.
