Antonio Cromartie Signs with Indianapolis Colts

According to a press release from the Indianapolis Colts, former New York Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie has signed with the Colts. Cromartie worked out for the team earlier today. Reports of injuries to five of the six top cornerbacks on the Colts depth chart gave Cromartie this chance.

Antonio Cromartie Signs with Indianapolis Colts

Cromartie, 32, has spent five of the last six years of his career with the Jets. He did not get a single interception last season, his lowest total since his rookie year back in 2006. Furthermore, he is a four-time Pro Bowler and was a First-Team All-Pro in 2007. He also recovered one fumble last season and notched 26 tackles. His last really effective season was with the Arizona Cardinals in 2014, where he got three interceptions and returned one fumble for a touchdown.

Before the signing, the only have two cornerbacks not injured right now are rookies . According to ESPN, Pro Bowl cornerback, Vontae Davis will miss at least one month with an ankle injury. Darius Butler and Patrick Robinson, the next in line after Davis are still battling back from their own leg injuries. Colts head coach Chuck Pagano was quoted today saying their current cornerback situation is “scary”. Cromartie should add a veteran presence to the secondary. He will be second in age of all players in the secondary to only safety Mike Adams, who is 35. If Cromartie can get back to the way he played from 2007-2014 he could be a big add for the Colts.
