Junior Galette Tears Achilles, Out for the Season

After what seemed to be a promising upcoming 2016 season for Washington Redskins linebacker Junior Galette, the absolute worst happened. Galette sustained another torn Achilles which will reportedly sideline him for the entire season. This occurred just two days before the start of training camp.

As many may remember, when Galette was brought to Washington in 2015 he tore his opposite Achilles which sat him out for a whole year. During the offseason, Galette has been getting nothing but high praise around Redskins Park. He’s been seen on Snapchat and Twitter displaying his explosiveness, calculated footwork and elite speed off of the edge. Take a look:

After the news came out on Galette’s injury, he quickly turned to social media to relieve some anger and heartache.

What most fans fail to realize is that Junior Galette has (or had) the potential to be an elite linebacker when healthy. In 2013 – 2014 he turned in a total of 22 sacks in two seasons . That performance caused New Orleans to grant him a contract extension worth $41.3 million over four years. This contract however was quickly abolished when he ran into some off the field issues involving a beach, a woman, and a belt.

Prior to this injury, Washington gave Galette a one-year deal worth up to $4.1 million, basically giving him an opportunity to prove himself in the upcoming year. At this moment, however, that investment doesn’t seem like it will reap any tangible results in the near future.
