New York Red Bulls vs. Philadelphia Union Preview

Three players who could impact the game

Aurélien Collin: Trading for the 30 year old French center-back has been arguably the best move for the Red Bulls this season. The former MLS Cup MVP has been stellar as the Red Bulls have struggled with injuries in their back line. I expect Collin to step up and  have a solid game against the highest scoring side in MLS.

Sacha Kljestan: Manager Jesse Marsch was able to rest the attacking mid-fielder in their mid-week match up against Orlando City SC. With the short turnaround from Wednesday, I expect Kljestan to play a pivotal role in the NYRB attack as others will be playing on tired legs. The MLS assist leader has not recorded an assist since May 28th against Toronto FC and will be looking to turn it around.

Alex Muyl: The 20-year-old homegrown player has benefited the most from the Lloyd Sam trade. Since Sam’s departure to D.C United, Muyl has found himself starting consistently on the right flank in the midfield.  The youngster seems to have an engine that doesn’t run out and is not afraid to get physical.  With the Red Bulls renewing their rivalry with the Union I expect Muyl to be in the center of the physical play.

What to expect

This will most likely be an offense vs offense affair. Due to the two sides being known for their attack, the game will be won by which side is stronger defensively. With a high energy crowd to be in attendance, I expect the Union will dictate the tempo. As a result of the Red Bulls short turnaround they will most likely come out more cautiously. I feel they will sit-in for the first 15 mins then look to enforce their high pressure.

Prediction: 1-1 Draw
