Alouettes Injuries: Carter, Glenn Statuses Uncertain

Even after a week three bye week, Montreal Alouettes injuries are beginning to pile up. Kevin Glenn and Duron Carter are uncertain for Friday's game.

Even after a week three bye week, Montreal Alouettes injuries are beginning to pile up. S.J. Green is out for the season with torn MCL, ACL and PCL muscles, and receiver Kenny Stafford (toe) and star running back Tyrell Sutton (knee) have both been placed on the six-game injured reserve. The three offensive threats join seven others on the IR.

Two Alouettes injuries that are not as serious, nor as clear to detect, are those to receiver Duron Carter and starting quarterback Kevin Glenn. Carter was rocked by Jermaine Robinson following a touchdown catch against the Ottawa Redblacks two weeks ago, and he has followed concussion protocol. Glenn has an infected eye, which is impairing his vision.

Carter missed Monday’s practice, but returned Tuesday, taking some reps with the first-team. Glenn has not been on the field, leaving Rakeem Cato as the first-team quarterback.

“[Glenn] has an excellent chance of playing. We just have to make sure [his eyes] are clear before playing”, says head coach Jim Popp. Even though Popp says he will be a game-time decision, he expects him to play.

Carter’s injury situation is different than Glenn’s. Despite being handed a one-game suspension for his altercation with Rick Campbell, Carter is appealing his suspension, allowing him to play until the league puts down a final decision. He still faces the injury issue, and needs medical clearance to play on Friday against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Carter says he’s been “medically cleared for physical activity” but did not go into further details regarding his head injury with the media following practice on Tuesday. He did look good in practice, running most drills and connecting well with Cato.

Popp was more open about the concussion protocol and Carter’s injury.

“Just to clarify, [Carter] has not been diagnosed with a concussion. He did have headaches starting [last] Tuesday, they subsided, and he would not be at practice had they not subsided.” He was not certain on Carter’s participation in Friday night’s game.

“If he comes back tomorrow and he feels good, and goes to another practice and does well, then yes he could play”. There are a lot of ifs in Carter’s situation, so only time will tell.

With the Alouettes injuries already adding up, Popp and the rest of the Alouettes brass are hoping their two threats on offence could play against a vunerable Ti-Cats team.
