Panelists’ Predictions 2016 Wimbledon Women’s Final

It’s finally here. Serena is going for Slam #22 against the woman who foiled her first attempt at 22. It’s a rematch of the Australian Open final, with Serena Williams facing Angelique Kerber. Predicting today are myself (Yesh Ginsburg), editor Steen Kirby, and contributors Bradey Bononcini, Ryan Schick, and John Lupo.

Panelists’ Predictions 2016 Wimbledon Women’s Final

Serena Williams vs Angelique Kerber

Yesh:
Serena is just too good. Kerber has the game to beat her, as she showed in Melbourne, but her serve has been nowhere near good enough this fortnight to pull it off.
Prediction: Serena in 2

Ryan:
Serena is the clear favorite in this match, but Kerber beat her in the Australian Ppen final and holds an impressive grass court record. Kerber without a doubt has the tools to put up a fight, especially shown by her victory over Serena. Serena beat Kerber 4 times in a row before the Australian Open, and although Kerber should keep it competitive, Serena wins her 22nd.
Prediction: Serena in 3

John:
A rematch of the Australian Open final sees both players at peak level heading into the final. Since her scare against Christina McHale, Williams has dropped just 18 games in her next 4 matches while Kerber looked solid in her win over Venus WIlliams in the semifinals. If the German can get Williams into extended rallies, as she did in Melbourne and hold her own serve enough, she should win this match. Add in the pressure of again trying to Steffi Graf’s record of 22 major titles and I think Kerber wins her 2nd major of the season.
Prediction: Kerber in 3

Steen:
Kerber should give Serena a great match, but I can’t pick against her after another dominant two weeks at Wimbledon. The American should continue defying her age and win another Slam title.
Prediction: Serena in 2

Bradey: A rematch of the Australian Open final, Williams is always out to get revenge. However, the American has demonstrated nerves in attaining the milestone 22 slams set by Steffi Graf. If her serve clicks, it could potentially be an easy day for her. If not, it’s a toss up.
Prediction: Serena in 3
