Georges Niang impresses in Summer League Debut

Georges Niang impresses in his summer league debut for the Indiana Pacers with a double-double.

Georges Niang started off his NBA career by scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in the Indiana Pacers first Summer League game of the year.

Niang nets double-double in Summer League Debut

After only earning six double-doubles during his career at Iowa State; Niang had one on Saturday in just 24 minutes of action.

The former Iowa State Cyclone even lead the team with five assists and a plus-minus of +24 in an all-around debut performance.

“I’m a jack-of-all-trades type of guy,” Niang told Pacers.com after the game. “I couldn’t ask for a better fit in Indiana.”

Niang showed a lot of flashes of his Iowa State self. He started out with a jump hook for his first bucket of the game, and later went to his signature reverse-layup.

Of course, he’s also known for his 3-point threat. And after missing his first shot from behind the arc, Niang was perfect, scorching threes by the end of the day.

That was not the only way Niang was showing off his stuff. At one point, he dove to save a ball going out of bounds, which got his teammate a wide open three pointer. The hustle play was marveled by the announcers on the NBATV Broadcast.

Niang and the Pacers will take the floor again on Sunday when they face the Charlotte Hornets at noon CT on NBATV and ESPN3.

His college teammate, Abdel Nader, will make his summer league debut when the Boston Celtics take on the Philadelphia 76ers Monday night.

LWOS’ Cyclone Analyst Connor Ferguson will have coverage of all games involving former Cyclones. Fans can follow him on Twitter (@cfchangs9) for live, in-game updates.
