Josh Lowe 2016 MLB Draft Profile

The jury is still out on what position Josh Lowe will play in the major leagues, but for good reason. Lowe should most definitely be drafted in the first round as a third baseman; however, some scouts are projecting him as one of the best high school arms in the class.

Lowe entered the Georgia 6A State Tournament hitting .407 with eleven home runs, thirty RBI, and a .605 on-base percentage. He also owns a 1.71 ERA, courtesy of a 95 MPH fastball. He holds a commitment to Florida State University, where he would plan to pitch as well as play third base.

Strengths:

  • Five-tool player
  • Smooth left-handed swing with raw power potential
  • Long, athletic frame
  • Elite speed and arm strength

Weaknesses:

  • Can be impatient at the plate
  • Below-average infielder
  • Inability to pin his position
  • Committed to Florida State

MLB Comparison: Todd Frazier, third base, Chicago White Sox
Projected Pick Range: 10-15
Most Likely Landing Spot: Tampa Bay Rays

Bottom Line

Lowe has everything it takes to become an everyday third baseman. He has an electric bat that has the potential for raw power, combined with elite speed and arm strength. Expect him to be one of the first prep bats selected in the 2016 draft.
