Arsenal have completed the signing of Swiss International and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Granit Xhaka for a fee believed to be around £30 million.

The 23-year-old central midfielder flew to London over the weekend to undergo a medical, finalise personal terms and sign a five-year contact.

The signing of Xhaka looks to be the first of multiple signings for the club, as many believe it will be a busy transfer window for Arsenal after the departures of Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky and possibly Mathieu Flamini.

His arrival will help improve Arsenal’s physicality, creativity and movement, with many fans and pundits keen to praise the Swiss midfielder’s passing range, his strong tackling, ability to read the game and make key interceptions.

Xhaka arrives to North London off the back of a productive season with Monchengladbach, making 36 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and one assist. His contribution on the pitch helped the German side recover from a stuttering league start to a fourth place finish and secure a Champions League play off place.

Granit started his playing for Swiss club Basel in 2010, winning back to back Swiss Super League titles and a single Swiss Cup before signing a fiver year contract with Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach worth an estimated €8.5 million.

The 23 year old has made 40 appearances and scored six goals for Switzerland since his international debut in 2011 against England and is currently a member of Switzerland’s provisional 28 man squad for Euro 2016.
