Last Word on Sports is proud to present their hockey podcast, On the Powerplay with Ben and Dave. Join Ben Kerr and Dave Gove each week as they take a look around the Hockey World focusing on the big issues of the NHL and elsewhere.
This week Dave and Ben go on the powerplay to discuss the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The big news of the week sees Andrew Shaw of the Chicago Blackhawks suspended for making a homophobic slur. The boys discuss just how common this is in the NHL today, and how much things have changed in the last twenty years. They look at why the NHL was correct in suspending Shaw and why his actions towards the officials were also unacceptable. They also look at the series and figure out exactly how the Blues have opened up a big lead on the Hawks.
The boys also look at the Predators and Ducks. The series surprised many with Nashville taking the first two games, however, Anaheim has started the comeback. How much has the change of goaltenders made a difference for the Ducks? Or is there some other explanation for the change.
Dave and Ben also examine the Sharks taking the early lead on the Kings. Can they finally shed the playoff choker mantra?
The Stars have taken control of their series over the Wild, and have also made a goalie change. Did Lindy Ruff make the right move in going back to Antti Niemi?
Over in the East, the Capitals are blowing out the Flyers. Are they the team to beat, or can Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins get by the Rangers and give them a run next round?
The Atlantic Division champion Panthers seem to be struggling with the New York Islanders. The boys look at why, and ask if Jaromir Jagr can change the series?
The Lightning are being led by Jonathan Drouin in taking care of the Red Wings. How has the youngsters resurgence changed the narrative around his season?
All this and more as we go On the Powerplay.
