Habs' P.K. Subban Released from Hospital with 'Non-Serious' Neck Injury

Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban has been released from hospital this morning after being admitted last night for what the Canadiens are calling a “non-serious” neck injury.

P.K. Subban Released From Hospital after Non-Serious Neck Injury

The Canadiens star defenceman is considered day-to-day with the injury, but will not play against Minnesota.

It was a scary situation last night when the star defenseman had an awkward collision with teammate Alexei Emelin and had to be stretchered off the ice agaisnt the Buffalo Sabres. Subban was skating into the corner boards alongside Sabres’ Marcus Foligno, where he then lost an edge and rammed his head into Emelin’s leg. Immediately Subban threw off his helmet and gloves and lay in pain on the ice.

Medical crews rushed the ice immediately and strapped P.K. into a stretcher and took him to a nearby hospital where he underwent comprehensive testing. Montreal would go on to win the game 3-2.

Fortunately, it appears that Subban will be alright, but the Canadiens have not yet released a timetable for his return.  Head Coach Michel Therrien visited the hospitalized Subban and had this to say: “Every time doctors rush onto the ice, we’re worried.  When it takes a long time and the player ends up leaving on a stretcher, there’s always worry. When I went to see him, he was with the doctors. I had a good talk with them and they assured me that he had movement in his extremities, which is a good thing given the circumstances.”

Subban has a team-high streak of 273 consecutive games played, but that seems likely to end on Saturday when the Habs take on the Minnesota Wild. The Canadiens said they will have more information on Subban and his condition after their morning skate Friday.
