Chris Jordan: England Bowler Extends Sussex Stay

England all-rounder Chris Jordan has signed a one-year extension to his contract with Sussex, which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2017 season.

England all-rounder Chris Jordan has signed a one-year extension to his contract with Sussex, which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2017 season.

The 27-year-old signed for the South Coast side in 2013 after his release from Surrey, and made an instant impact, taking a career-best 6-48 on his Championship debut against Yorkshire.

After 61 wickets in the 2013 first-class season, he was given a surprise international debut during the 2013-14 ODI tour of Australia, and has since appeared in 27 ODIs, taking forty wickets in the process.

Despite being much-maligned by England fans, he is in the squad for the upcoming World T20 in India, and recently restricted Pakistan to just three runs in a super over to win England a game in Sharjah.

As well as proving a useful asset with both bat and ball, Jordan is an excellent fielder, as can be seen from catches like the one below, against Nottinghamshire last year:

He said of his new deal at Hove, “I’m absolutely thrilled to be extending my contract to stay longer at a club that I have grown to love and one that now feels like home.

“I’m looking forward to putting in my best performances on the pitch, helping Sussex back into Division One and back to winning trophies.”

Sussex’s Head Coach Mark Davis said, “CJ is a vital member of our team and balances us in all formats of the game. His all-round ability as a fast bowler, destructive batsman and brilliant catcher makes him a key member of our team at Sussex.

“I’m thrilled he has extended his contract and look forward to him making vital contributions to winning games for the club.”
