The Houston Rockets look set to give seven year NBA veteran Michael Beasley another shot to make it in the Association.
Beasley, 27, was recently named the MVP of the Chinese Basketball Association and has clearly impressed enough for the Rockets to give the experienced forward another chance in the NBA. While playing in China, Beasley averaged 31.9 points, 13.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game for the Shandong Golden Stars.
Beasley last played in the NBA with the Miami Heat during the 2014-15 season. Beasley averaged a solid 8.8 points and 3.7 rebounds coming off the bench.
It appears as if Beasley is very determined to be successful in the NBA, especially if ESPN.com reports are true. ESPN reported last week that Beasley had a very attractive offer on the table from Maccabi Tel Aviv. But Beasley turned down the offer and remained hopeful that an NBA team would come calling. Beasley’s patience paid off.
The Rockets are looking to improve their production off the bench for the remainder of the season, and the signing of Beasley isn’t the only move the team has made to help themselves do so. The Rockets have also announced the signing of guard Andrew Goudelock, another player who has just finished playing in China. Goudelock was signed to a two-year deal by the Rockets.
The news of Beasley’s signing was first broken by ESPN.com’s Marc Stein. Stein reported that not only had Houston signed Beasley but they also included a team option for the 2016-17 season. So the incentive for Beasley to impress is certainly there.
