Oilers extend Brandon Davidson and Laurent Brossoit

The Edmonton Oilers extended a pair of players on Monday, giving new contracts to defenceman Brandon Davidson, and goaltender Laurent Brossoit. Davidson signed for two years at $2.85 million (AAV $1.425 million), while Brossoit also signs for two years at $1.5 million (AAV $750,000). The deals are both one-way contracts.

After playing 12 games as an NHL rookie in 2014-15; Davidson, 24, has emerged as a top four defenceman for the Oilers this season. In 47 games this season, Davidson has four goals and six assists for 10 points.  He was scheduled to be a restricted free agent in July.  Davidson was the Oilers 6th round pick, 162nd overall, in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Brossoit, 22, has appeared in just two NHL games; one in 2014-15 and one in 2015-16.  He stopped 32 of 33 shots for an overtime win.  With the Oilers recent trade of Anders Nilsson, Brossoit becomes the backup to Cam Talbot in the Oilers crease.  This contract indicates that it is expected that he will hold a spot on the roster next year.
