Jeff Petry Out for the season

Thursday morning, the Montreal Canadiens announced that defenseman Jeff Petry will require surgery to repair a sports hernia, resulting in him missing the rest of the Canadiens season. Petry had just returned to practice after he already missed the last seven games. He was sidelined with a lower-body injury he received against the Carolina Hurricanes on February 7th.  Prior the announcement Jeff Petry was listed as day-to-day. It has been rough as the already banged up Habs have just lost another important piece for the rest of the season.

Petry was acquired at the trade deadline last season. He was given a a 6-year, $33 million dollar deal following the season to avoid free agency.  This season, Petry has scored 5 goals and added 11 assists with a -6 rating in 51 games for the Canadiens.

Also on Thursday,  the Canadiens announced that defenseman Tom Gilbert will require knee surgery resulting in him to miss a minimum of six months.

Gilbert played 45 games this season for the Habs recording a goal, and an assist with a +3 rating. Gilbert is set to become an unrestricted free agent this off-season.

On Tuesday the Canadiens recalled defenceman Victor Bartley from the St. John’s Ice Caps of the AHL. Bartley was acquired in the Jarred Tinordi/John Scott trade in December. He played his first game for the Habs in last night’s victory over the Washington Capitals.
