Flyers' Michael Del Zotto out 3-4 months with injury

It was on February 13th that Philadelphia Flyers’ defenseman Michael Del Zotto aggravated his left wrist in game against the New Jersey Devils.  Today, the 22nd, Flyers’ General Manager Ron Hextall announced that the 25-year-old defenseman would have surgery on his left wrist to fix the ligament damage and would be sidelined for 3-4 months for recovery.  The only way Del Zotto would make a return this season is if the Flyers were to make the playoffs and have a long run.

It can be seen, however, that Del Zotto will be out for the remainder of the season.  The Flyers currently sit in the seventh spot in the Metropolitan Divison with a total of 63 points.  They also stand three spots out of a Wild Card spot.  With only 24 games remaining in the regular season, it is unlikely they will make the post-season.

Either way, the loss of their number one defenseman hurts.  Del Zotto led the team in average ice-time at 23 minutes, 28 seconds a game and had 4 goals and 9 assists in 52 games played (Via NHL.com).
