Derrick Brown Commits to Auburn

Highly touted five-star defensive tackle Derrick Brown made his collegiate decision Wednesday, committing to Auburn over Georgia and Alabama.

Five-star prospect Derrick Brown has waited until National Signing Day to announce his collegiate future, declaring that he will play for the Auburn Tigers next season.

Derrick Brown has had people in the southeast sitting on pins and needles. The top rated defensive player in the state of Georgia was long considered to be a lock for the Bulldogs.

The 6’3″, 317 pound defensive lineman from Lanier High School in Buford, Georgia had 106 tackles on the season for Lanier, with 82 solo tackles and 12 sacks. He also had 43 tackles for a loss and was a USA Today 1st team All American on defense. Just to show off his nimbleness, he even had one interception his senior season with a 31 yard return.

Kirby Smart had been handling his recruiting at Alabama prior to leaving for the head coaching job at Georgia. When word got out about how much Brown was enjoying his other official visits, Smart reportedly booked a helicopter ride to Brown’s high school to see him again. How much did Brown enjoy his other visits? After his last official visit, which was at Tennessee, he posted the lyrics to Rocky Top on his twitter feed.

Brown also played in the U.S. Army All-American game in San Antonio last month.
