College Basketball Top 25 Week 12

Another week of college basketball is in the books. As promised, here is my college basketball Top 25 after Week 12 of the season:

College Basketball Top 25 Week 12

  1. North Carolina Tar Heels (Previous: 3)

Record: 17-2
Week Record: 2-0

North Carolina has one loss without Marcus Paige early in the year, and one to a last second shot at Texas. In a crazy week, they are the No. 1 team in the country.

  1. Oklahoma Sooners (1)

Record: 16-2
Week Record: 1-1

Oklahoma’s loss this week came at Iowa State, which is an extremely tough place to play. Sooners are still one of the best teams in the country.

  1. Kansas Jayhawks (2)

Record: 16-3
Week Record: 1-1

Kansas had a really, really ugly loss at Oklahoma State this week, but they avenged themselves with a home win against upset hungry Texas.

  1. Iowa Hawkeyes (8)

Record: 16-3
Week Record: 2-0

Iowa continues to be the surprise team of the country this year, as they took down Purdue this weekend. Do not forget, they should have beat Iowa State in Ames.

  1. Villanova Wildcats (4)

Record: 17-3
Week Record: 1-1

Villanova took a tough loss to Providence in overtime, but that is not enough to drop the Wildcats too far in the rankings. They are still the best team in the Big East.

  1. Texas A&M Aggies (13)

Record: 17-2
Week Record: 2-0

Texas A&M are the new kids on the block in the top ten, but being the only undefeated team in the SEC thus far will do that. Aggies have been playing well as of late.

  1. Maryland Terrapins (9)

Record: 17-3
Week Record: 1-1

Maryland’s road loss to Michigan State is nothing for Terrapin fans to worry about, as the team did not play too well other than Melo Trimble.

  1. Xavier Musketeers (5)

Record: 17-2
Week Record: 1-1

Xavier’s one loss this week came to a feisty Georgetown team, who could really spoil some teams’ season this year.

  1. Virginia Cavaliers (14)

Record: 15-4
Week Record: 2-0

Virginia had a few weeks of bad offense and lazy defense (for Virginia standards) but they got back on track this week against Clemson and Syracuse.

  1. West Virginia Mountaineers (7)

Record: 16-3
Week Record: 1-1

A weird week for West Virginia led to the Mountaineers staying in the top ten, although they barely got by Texas Tech after a tough loss to Texas earlier in the week.

  1. Arizona Wildcats (11) (16-4)
  2. Michigan State Spartans (12) (17-4)
  3. Providence Friars (20) (17-3)
  4. Iowa State Cyclones (24) (17-4)
  5. Miami Hurricanes (18) (15-3)
  6. SMU Mustangs (6) (18-1)
  7. Baylor Bears (16) (15-4)
  8. Louisville Cardinals (17) (16-3)
  9. Indiana Hoosier (23) (17-3)
  10. Purdue Boilermakers (22) (17-4)
  11. Kentucky Wildcats (UnR) (15-4)
  12. USC Trojans (UnR) (16-4)
  13. South Carolina Gamecocks (15) (17-2)
  14. Oregon Ducks (UnR) (16-4)
  15. Pittsburgh Panthers (10) (16-3)

T26. Clemson Tigers, California Golden Bears

Dropped Out: No. 19 Duke Blue Devils, No. 21 Butler Bulldogs, No. 25 Valparaiso Crusaders
