NHL Includes Women’s Winter Classic Game

For the first time the NHL will include a Womens Winter Classic Game in their annual festivities as the Boston Pride take on the Montreal Canadiennes.

The National Hockey League will hold their annual outdoor hockey game at the Winter Classic, in Foxboro, Massachusetts on New Year’s Day 2016 as the Boston Bruins will host the Montreal Canadiens.

In addition to the 2016 NHL Winter Classic Alumni Game, presented by Molson Canadian, on December 31, 2015 at 3:30 PM, the NHL announced on Monday that they will also host the first ever Women’s Outdoor Classic, presented by Scotiabank, at 2:00 PM. All fans with tickets to the alumni game will be allowed to watch the women’s  winter classic. Gates will open at 1:30 PM on New Year’s Eve.

The Outdoor Women’s Winter Classic will feature the Boston Pride of the National Women’s Hockey League facing the Les Canadiennes of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League in an abbreviated exhibition game on the outdoor rink at Gillette Stadium.

NHL Deputy Commissioner, Bill Daly said, “Two days with three Boston-Montreal rivalries is a great way to celebrate hockey.” He added, “A new year signifies a new chapter and we look forward to sharing the ice for the first time with two professional women’s teams on the league’s biggest stage.”

All the live and extensive coverage of the activities and festivities at the Winter Classic can be found on NHL.com and the NHL Network. NHL Social will also cover the event on all social media platforms, using the hashtag, #WinterClassic.

The NHL will also hold a free two-day festival in the Spectator Plaza located in Lot 22 of Gillette Stadium parking lot. All of the attractions at the Fan Festival are free, but fans must pay for parking.

The 2016 NHL Winter Classic Spectator Plaza will be open from 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM on Thursday, December 31 and from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Friday, January 1.

Activities on tap at Spectator Plaza will include, an NHL trivia contest, interactive games, bubble hockey tournaments, photo booths, EA Sports NHL 16 games, slap shot and goaltending skills activities and much more.
