College Basketball Top 25: Week 7

Another week of college basketball is in the books. As promised, here is my college basketball Top 25 after Week 7 of the season

Another week of college basketball is in the books. As promised, here is my college basketball Top 25 after Week 7 of the season:

College Basketball Top 25: Week 7

  1. Michigan State Spartans (Previous: 1)

Record: 12-0
Week Record: 1-0

Michigan State continued its perfect season with a pretty convincing win over a pretty good Northeastern team. Sophomore point guard Tum Tum Nairn played well in the win, which was a good sign for the Spartans.

  1. Oklahoma Sooners (2)

Record: 8-0
Week Record: 1-0

Oklahoma is also continuing this perfect season this week with a tough victory over Creighton. The Sooners have had a great non conference run, and Buddy Hield is also playing like the All-American he can be.

  1. Kansas Jayhawks (5)

Record: 9-1
Week Record: 1-0

Kansas beat up an underwhelming Montana team this week, as they continue to improve. There is not much to say this week, but it should be noted that Cheick Diallo’s improvement over the year should be important by March.

  1. Xavier Musketeers (10)

Record: 11-0
Week Record: 1-0

Xavier just keeps embarrassing opponents, as Auburn was the victim this week. The Musketeers beat them by double digits in a game that shows how Xavier has built a top five resume.

  1. North Carolina Tar Heels (8)

Record: 9-2
Week Record: 2-0

North Carolina does have two losses on the year, but what they did at UCLA without Kennedy Meeks was downright impressive. Their loss to Texas is still somewhat flukey in my opinion. Senior forward Brice Johnson was huge against the Bruins.

  1. Maryland Terrapins (9)

Record: 10-1
Week Record: 1-0

Maryland’s only win on the week was against Princeton, a team that they should have beaten pretty badly. They did do so, and it has been interesting to see how well Maryland has played since their loss at North Carolina.

  1. Virginia Cavaliers (11)

Record: 9-1
Week Record: 1-0

Virginia was the victim of an early upset this season, and that has kept them out of the top ten in polls, but they got a huge win over Villanova this weekend. The Cavaliers have work to do, but they are still a solid group.

  1. Arizona Wildcats (12)

Record: 11-1
Week Record: 2-0

Arizona has overcome early season injuries and getting upset by Providence, but the Wildcats have bounced back nicely, including a good win over UNLV this past week.

  1. Miami Hurricanes (15)

Record: 9-1
Week Record: 1-0

Miami was another team that fell victim to an early season upset, but that was also a very flukey loss on a last second shot. The Hurricanes have also bounced back nicely, and I could not keep them out of my top ten.

  1. Duke Blue Devils (4)

Record: 9-2
Week Record: 1-1

Another two loss team in the top ten, I know, but I still believe Duke has the talent to overcome Amile Jefferson’s injury. Jefferson was a big part of the Blue Devils’ success so far this year, but let’s not discount what Coach K can do with room to grow.

  1. Butler Bulldogs (16) (9-1)
  2. SMU Mustangs (17) (9-0)
  3. Purdue Boilermakers (6) (11-1)
  4. Villanova Wildcats (13) (8-2)
  5. Louisville Cardinals (18) (9-1)
  6. West Virginia Mountaineers (19) (9-1)
  7. Providence Friars (20) (11-1)
  8. Kentucky Wildcats (4) (9-2)
  9. Iowa State Cyclones (7) (9-1)
  10. Cincinnati Bearcats (21) (10-2)
  11. George Washington Colonials (22) (10-1)
  12. Vanderbilt Commodores (23) (7-3)
  13. Pittsburgh Panthers (24) (9-1)
  14. Texas A&M Aggies (UnR) (9-2)
  15. Baylor Bears (14) (8-2)

T26. South Carolina, UCLA, UConn, Baylor, Utah, Monmouth

Dropped out: No. 25 Notre Dame Fighting Irish
