CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015) – The following is a press release from the LA Galaxy.

LA Galaxy Sign Defender Daniel Steres

The LA Galaxy have signed defender Daniel Steres from LA Galaxy II, the club announced today. Steres, who captained LA Galaxy II last season, has earned three-straight All-League Team selections in USL. Per MLS and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Steres joins defender Dave Romney and goalkeeper Clement Diop as Galaxy II players that have signed MLS contracts with the LA Galaxy.

“Daniel has been an important part of LA Galaxy II’s success during the past two seasons,” said LA Galaxy Head Coach and General Manager Bruce Arena. “He has continued developing while earning meaningful and consistent minutes in USL. We look forward to his contributions to our team.”

Steres, 25, captained LA Galaxy II in 2015 and was a mainstay in the Los Dos defense for the second straight season, starting in 24 matches – the most of any Galaxy II defender – while adding two goals in regular season play. The Calabasas, California, product started in all four of Galaxy II’s USL Playoff matches, leading the team to the 2015 USL Championship. He earned LA Galaxy II Defender of the Year for the second-straight year.

In 2015, Steres also made first-team appearances for the LA Galaxy during the International Champions Cup in matches against FC Barcelona and Club America.

The defender was born in Burbank, California, and attended Calabasas High School. A three-time Jewish Community Center (JCC) Macabi Championship Team member, he earned a scholarship to San Diego State University, where he played all four years and went on to earn All-Pac-19 honors. The former Los Dos captain was selected by Chivas USA in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft with the 28th overall pick, but later joined with Seattle Sounders FC after being selected in the 2012 MLS Waiver Draft.

Steres signed for the Wilmington Hammerheads ahead of the 2013 USL Season and went on to lead the team in goals with seven in addition to recording three assists. He was named the team MVP that season before he returned to Southern California to sign with Galaxy II.

A first of its kind program in Major League Soccer, LA Galaxy II provides playing time and professional development opportunities for players within the LA Galaxy player development structure. The USL side features LA Galaxy first team players, players signed by Galaxy II and LA Galaxy Academy players.
