The LA Galaxy have signed goalkeeper Clement Diop from LA Galaxy II, the club announced today. Diop, who will occupy an International roster spot, joins LA Galaxy after leading Los Dos to the 2015 USL Championship last season. Per MLS and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Clement is a young player who showed a tremendous upside last season with LA Galaxy II,” said LA Galaxy Head Coach and General Manager Bruce Arena. “He is another example of why LA Galaxy II is so important for providing players with opportunities for development. We are happy to add him to our roster as he continues to progress as a player.”
The French goalkeeper started in 24 matches for LA Galaxy II while recording eight shutouts with a 1.12 goals against average during the 2015 USL Regular Season. In postseason play, Diop recorded two shutouts and allowed just one goal in four games played, leading Los Dos to the 2015 USL Championship against the Rochester Rhinos.
Diop signed with LA Galaxy II following the club’s 2014 season. In 2011, the former France youth national team goalkeeper signed his first professional contract with Amiens Sporting Club in the Championnat National, the third division of professional soccer in France.
The goalkeeper joins defender Dave Romney as LA Galaxy II players who have signed first-team contracts with the LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer.
A first of its kind program in Major League Soccer, LA Galaxy II provides playing time and professional development opportunities for players within the LA Galaxy player development structure. The USL side features LA Galaxy first team players, players signed by Galaxy II and LA Galaxy Academy players.
