Bartolo Colon Re-signs with the New York Mets

Bartolo Colon and the New York Mets agree to a one-year deal.

In a move that is sure to make New York Mets fans happy, the Mets will bring back fan favorite, Bartolo Colon, to round out their starting rotation.  Colon has signed a one-year deal worth $7.25 million with the Mets, and even reportedly agreed to take a discount, so that he could continue to play in New York.  The right-handed starter has pitched the previous two season with the Mets, with a record of 29-26, and a 4.13 ERA.

Colon has been somewhat of a journeyman in his 18 year career in baseball.  He was signed by the Cleveland Indians in 1993 as a free agent, and made his debut with the them in 1997, starting against the Anaheim Angels.  He stayed with the Indians from 1997-2002, after being traded to the Montreal Expos mid-season.  In his time with the Indians, Colon, was an All-Star (1998), and twice finished in the top-ten for Cy Young voting.

After a season with the Expos, Colon jumped from team to team, spending time with the Chicago White Sox, the Angels,  the Boston Red Sox, the White Sox again, the New York Yankees, the Oakland Athletics and most recently the Mets.

In his time with seemingly every major league team, Colon has enjoyed some personal success.  He is a three-time All-Star, he led the American League in wins in 2005 and won the Cy Young Award the same year. In 2000, while with the Indians, Colon threw a one-hitter against the New York Yankees, and also threw a no-hitter while in Triple-A as a member of the Buffalo Bisons in 1997.

Colon has a career 3.97 ERA, 1.303 WHIP,  a 218-154 record with 2,237 strikeouts.  In the 2015 postseason, Colon had a 4.50 ERA in the NLDS, but had a 0.00 ERA in the NLCS and the World Series, while pitching out of the bullpen for the Mets.
