Newcastle United Injuries Adding Up

Newcastle United injuries are mounting as defender Mike Williamson limped out of training with a hamstring injury.

Another injury victim to add to the list at Newcastle United as defender Mike Williamson limped out of training with a hamstring injury, reports The Chronicle

The 32-year-old was recalled from a loan spell at Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers two days ago after Jamaal Lascelles picked up an injury in the defeat to Crystal Palace last weekend.

Williamson had been in contention for the clash with Liverpool on Sunday at St James’ Park, but Magpies boss Steve McClaren has said the centre-back is now ruled out after the player had “tweaked” his hamstring.

When McClaren was asked if Williamson would be back in time of the visit of Jurgen Klopp’s side he said: “We would have liked to have thought so but I think he’s just tweaked his hamstring in training and he has to have a scan on that to know the extent.

“We will know more later but that’s a little worry.”

The pressure is piling up on McClaren on Tyneside after being hammered 5-1 by Crystal Palace last Saturday, and so is the injury list – Newcastle now have 10 players out through injury.

Newcastle have lost their last two fixtures, conceding eight goals in the process, and have just registered two wins in the Premier League with a 6-2 victory over Norwich City and a 1-0 win over Bournemouth at the beginning of November.

Despite sitting in the 19th place in the league, McClaren insists there is no need to panic and believe he and his players can turn their poor form around.

“That’s the key thing, that there’s no panic. We know we’re doing the right things every day,” said the former England boss

“Everybody knows and everybody can see that. In time that will turn around and work.

“We’re having huge disappointments that I hope will toughen us up and make us stronger in the long run.”
