Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher will be out indefinitely. Gallagher will require surgery, and the team has announced that it is scheduled to take place on Monday.

Brendan Gallagher out indefinitely

“It’s a big loss for but we can’t feel sorry for ourselves” said Michel Therrien regarding the news on Gallagher’s injury.

Brendan Gallagher has put up 9 goals and 19 points in 22 games so far playing on the first line alongside centre Tomas Plekanec and captain Max Pacioretty.  Before the injury it was reported that team Canada had Brendan Gallagher on their radar for the world Cup.

This is Gallagher’s first major injury since getting a concussion during his rookie season for which he missed 5 games during the shortened 2013 NHL season. Since then Gallagher has only missed 1 game in his last 3 seasons. At age 23, Gallagher has put up 67 goals and 135 points in 229 career games with the Canadiens.

The Canadiens have been hit by the injury bug as of late, Torrey Mitchell, Alexei Emelin and Devante Smith-Pelly are all out with lower-body injuries. Following the announcement to Devancte Smith-Pelly’s injury the Canadiens called up 27 year old Bud Holloway from the St. John IceCaps. Bud Holloway has lead the IceCaps so far this season in points with 5 goals and 20 points in 18 games. With Gallagher’s injury, it appears that Holloway will get a chance to play his first ever NHL game later on this week.

The Canadiens currently are tied for the league lead in points with the Stars who each have 34 points so far this season. Gallagher’s injury gives the team a chance to showcase how much depth they have on the right wing.
