The San Francisco Giants announced Tuesday that shortstop Brandon Crawford has agreed to a six-year extension to stay in San Francisco. Minutes later Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports tweeted that the deal was for $72 million over those six years. The deal also reportedly included a guarantee on the full $72 million, and a full no-trade clause.

Chris Cotillo of the MLB Daily Dish reports that Crawford’s new deal covers his final two years of arbitration as well as four total free agent years. This extension gives the Giants an additional four years of control over the All-Star infielder. Cotillo also mentioned that the team was interested in extending Crawford (28) as early as last week, and came to a deal rather quickly.
Crawford became a first time All-Star this season, he also put up the best numbers of his career, hitting 21 home runs and putting up 84 RBIs. Its no surprise the Giants would want to make Crawford a long-term solution at shortstop if possible, Crawford hit 47 home runs in his first five seasons in the Major Leagues.
Brandon Crawford is 28 years old and a native of the Bay Area. Crawford attended Foothill High School in Pleasanton, California. Crawford attended UCLA for college, he played baseball for the Bruins from 2006-2008 winning MVP honors in 2007 and 2008. Crawford is the sixth player in MLB history to hit a grand slam during his first Major League game. Crawford was called up in 2011 by the Giants, and became the official starter for the 2012 season. Given Crawford’s path thus far, it seems to be no secret he wants to stay home. On a non-related note, Crawford’s sister Amy is engaged to Pittsburgh Pirates’ Ace Geritt Cole.
