LWOS World Series Game 1 Live Blog

The LWOS Baseball Department is pleased to bring you their live game blog, in conjunction with Cover It Live.  The Blog will be going live tonight at 7:30 pm as the American League Champion Kansas City Royals take on the National League Champion New York Mets in the World Series Game 1.

After coming up short in 2015, losing in game 7, with the tying run stranded on third base in the bottom of the ninth, the Royals are back and looking to win it all.  Thanks to the American League’s win in the All-Star game, they have home field advantage and Kaufmann Stadium will be rocking.  Edinson Volquez takes the mound for the Royals, who got to the World Series, by winning the America League Central, defeating the Houston Astros in a five-game ALDS and defeating the Toronto Blue Jays in a six-game ALCS. For a deeper look at how the Royals got this far, take a look at Andrew Ferrall’s article here.

Meanwhile the New York Mets are in the World Series for the first time since the 2000 Subway Series where they fell to the Yankees.  They rode a strong pitching staff and the acquisition of Yoenis Cespedes to the National League East title.  In the playoffs, second baseman Daniel Murphy has been red hot, homering in six straight games as the Mets beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games in the NLDS, and then swept away the Chicago Cubs in the NLCS.  For a deeper look at that Mets win, take a look at John Lupo’s article here.

This will be the first ever meeting between these two teams in the World Series.  The Royals are looking for their second ever title, as they try to add another championship banner beside the one from 1985. The Mets look for their third in franchise history, with wins in 1969 and 1986.
