2015 Kansas City Chiefs : Is there still hope?

When the 2015 Kansas City Chiefs entered this season, many fans were optimistic about the possibility of another superb run like the one from 2013-14 in which the chiefs went 9-0 until they lost their first game against conference rivals the Denver Broncos. This season however, has shown a different side of ArrowHead, one that hasn’t taken particularly well to the fans liking. The Chiefs are 2-5 and their recent win over the Pittsburgh Steelers was a crucial one, because it keeps their hopes of a playoff spot alive. It may seem impossible, but these Chiefs have plenty of fight left in them, and if everything goes as planned, the team home to the loudest fans in the NFL, might have something to be loud about for the first time in over a year.

Kansas City started their 2015-16 NFL season off with a close 27-20 victory over the now 2-5 Texans. While now this may not seem as much of an achievement due to the Texans’ poor performances, the Chiefs carried the momentum into their game against the Denver Broncos, a team who were also 1-0. Many saw this game favoring Peyton Manning’s side, however, many saw the Chiefs as an underdog with plenty of surprises. Nevertheless, the Chiefs were tied 14-14 at halftime, but a fumble by now injured running-back Jamaal Charles saw the Denver Broncos regain possession and equal the score. This ended the Chiefs’ momentum and in the end the Broncos walked off with an impressive 31-24 victory. A match lost in the last moments makes team spirit go down tremendously, motivation goes out the window and you look towards your next game to lift the team, and fans’ spirits. The Broncos game was truly a turning point for the Chiefs’ season even if it was only in week two. This is because it left the Chiefs searching for a victory that would reestablish confidence through ArrowHead. This was why when the Chiefs played the Packers in Week three, a victory was crucial. Unfortunately, for Andy Reid’s side, they lost and as a result lost their next three games. Sunday’s victory against the Steelers could be exactly what the Chiefs needed to reignite the Chiefs’ “ Warrior “ momentum.

Kansas City next faces off against the 1-6 Lions, which should, on paper, be an easy win for the Chiefs. However, you never know what surprises Matthew Stafford could have in his back pocket. Assuming the Chiefs win this game they’ll be 3-5. The Chiefs would then go on to face the Broncos in a game that they will likely lose, making therm 3-6. Kansas City then faces seldom rivals such as the Chargers twice at Arrowhead and Qualcomm, the Bills at ArrowHead. This should be another close game which is leaning to the Chiefs. Assuming they can win these three games, and beat the 2-5 Browns as well as the 1-5 Ravens lead by Joe Flacco. they will have a very good chance of securing a Wild Card spot. Oakland seems like it would be a tough match for Kansas City that will either be a close victory or a pummeling defeat. Either of these outcomes are certain to be nail biters for fans across the NFL.

On paper these last remaining opponents have not been very good this season. The Chiefs, however, are no exception. Whether Jamaal Charles’ absence will become more and more noticeable as we progress through the season is unknown. What is known, however, is that for Chiefs supporters, and general fans of football, these upcoming weeks are going to be very exciting; and many of them will be life or death for the “ Red and Yellow.”

Kansas City ( 2-5 )  next face the Detroit Lions ( 1-6 ) on November 1st at 9:30 AM from Wembley Stadium in England.
