USL Championship: LA Galaxy II At Rochester Rhinos

Carson, CA (Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015) – The following is a press release from LA Galaxy II of the USL.

USL Championship: LA Galaxy II At Rochester Rhinos

LA Galaxy II face the Rochester Rhinos this Friday, Oct. 16 on the road at Sahlen’s Stadium in the 2015 USL Championship match. The game, which will be broadcasted on ESPN3 and streamed live on www.lagalaxy.com, will kick off at 4:30 p.m. PT.

LA Galaxy II will host a viewing party at Phantom Carriage for fans to watch the 2015 USL Championship between LA Galaxy II and Rochester Rhinos on Friday, beginning at 4 p.m. PT.

After traveling to Oklahoma City, Los Dos took the Western Conference final title after earning a 2-1 victory over OKC Energy FC on Sunday, Oct. 11 when Ariel Lassiter and Andre Auras were able to find the back of the net in the first half. Against OKC, Galaxy II head coach fielded a youthful squad as six starters were aged 21 or younger.

Looking to be the first MLS-owned and operated team to win a USL Championship, LA Galaxy II are 3-0-0 in the playoffs. A huge role in LA’s success this postseason, French goalkeeper Clement Diop has only allowed one ball in the back of the net, earning two shutouts.

Led by head coach Bob Lilley, Rochester Rhinos have been very successful at home with a USL-best 12-0-2 record at Sahlen’s Stadium. With Steevan dos Santos out after earning a red card in the Eastern Conference Final against Louisville City FC, he will miss the championship match after scoring two goals during the playoff run and leading the team during regular season play as he tallied 8 goals, along with Christian Volesky.

Despite being the first matchup between the two clubs this season, the Rhinos are familiar with LA Galaxy II. Rochester was knocked out of the 2014 USL Playoffs last September by Los Dos at StubHub Center in the Western Conference Quarterfinals.

LA Galaxy II finished the USL Regular Season in fifth place in Western Conference standings with a 14-11-3 record to qualify for the USL Playoffs for the second-straight year. They are led in goals by forward Ariel Lassiter, who has scored 14 times between the USL Regular Season and USL Playoffs. LA Galaxy Homegrown Player Raul Mendiola has added 10 total assists for Los Dos on the year with Galaxy II goalkeeper Clement Diop earning 10 shutouts. LA Galaxy II have also recorded the best road record in USL, going 11-6-0 in all competitions including regular season and playoffs.
