Jack Eichel: 2015-2016 Rookie of the Year?

The Buffalo Sabres could have the next NHL rookie of the year on their roster, and his name is Jack Eichel.

Jack Eichel: 2015-2016 Rookie of the Year?

For the past year and a half, the National Hockey League has turned Eichel and Connor McDavid into their young-gun poster boys. One of the greatest debates being discussed amongst hockey fans is over which rookie is better than the other, and as it stands right now, Eichel is leading the way with two goals in three games. There’s no doubt in my mind that McDavid will begin displaying his magic this season, but it seems as if Eichel will be a consistent scorer, and he is already beginning to produce “rookie of the year” stats for the Sabres.

So, what does Eichel need to do to become the NHL’s 2015-2016 Calder Trophy winner? The key to Eichel’s success is producing as many points as he possibly can, in case McDavid begins to heat up (which he probably will). It’s a known fact that both of these young men can score, so the requirements for winning the Calder Trophy will include other factors such as leadership and all-around playing ability. It has been said time and time again that McDavid and Eichel possess the ability to turn a franchise around, and that’s what their clubs intend for them to do. As it stands right now, Eichel has Sabres fans worshiping his on-ice talent, and rightfully so. If McDavid wants to prove that he really was meant to be the Edmonton Oilers first overall draft pick, he’ll need to step up his game. Of course, this won’t be a problem for the Canadian phenom, who has been attracting scouts since he was 15 years old.

As everyone can clearly see, Eichel is running the show like nobody’s business. Still, the 2015-2016 NHL season is still beginning, and rookie scoring is difficult to project. If Eichel and McDavid continue down their current paths however, it will be Eichel’s name etched onto the Calder Memorial Trophy at the end of the year.
